MASKED SHRIKE
DALYAN TURKEY 2006
A stunning bird, and the only one i saw around the village, though we saw more around Koycegiz lake, as i walked the track around the fields i saw several Woodchats, two Red Backed the Lesser Grey pictured below and this Masked all within ten minutes, awesome.

RED FOOTED FALCONS

We came across several small flocks of these stunning birds over the two weeks, the biggest being 23, last year we only saw a couple.

ROCK SPARROW

SOGUT QUARRY
At least 50 pairs in the quarry, the noise as it echos from their calls is quite deafning, several birds around the hills at Kizilcadag as well.

EASTERN ORPHEAN WARBLER

ORPHEAN WARBLER
Two birds singing around the ruins and this one showed well, the song at times sounded like Nightingale, heard to sing on several days but really hard to see most of the time in the thick scrub.

BLACK HEADED WAGTAIL

Dalyan Marsh, Dalyan Turkey May 2006. Seen every day in large numbers around the fields and marsh behind the village.

CITRINE WAGTAIL

DALYAN
An early morning walk around the village in the morning produced this superb Citrine wagtail.
A new bird for me, i heard it call and saw it flying past me, the wagtail then landed on overhead wires were it sat for several minutes, unfortunately it was against the sun.

BLACK HEADED BUNTING

DALYAN TURKEY
Superb looking bird, loads of males seen singing song quite distinctive.

SHORT TOED SNAKE EAGLE

Seen everyday over the Lycian Tombs or the Roman Ruins at the back of the village, upto 5 in the air at once some days. Dalyan Turkey May 2006.

SPANISH SPARROW

Common in the many storks nests

RUFOUS BUSH CHAT

Cracking little bird with upto five on the edge of the village, and a couple along the road to the beach

RED RUMPED SWALLOW

Another common bird around the resort, though not often in the Swallow and House martin flocks, prefering their own company. Turkey Dalyan 2006

LEVANT HORNED LARK

Kizilcadag Mountains Turkey May 2006 Of the race Penicillata a distinct form, with greyish-pink mantle and scapulars, no buff or dark streaks, hindneck a vinous pink, face pale yellow and the black quite extensive around the face and throat, it also joins unlike the race we see in Britian.
Watched feeding, perching on fences, in display flight, and singing, call quite different as well when flushed off ground.
