Trumpeter Finch

A mega at last, though i was on a plane coming back from two weeks in Turkey when it was found, still present this morning so we drove the 3 hours to languard and had stunning views as we arrived, very hard to photograph but perched long enough on this concrete post to rip off two shots, awesome.

Turkey 7th-20th May

South west Turkey 7th-20th May 2005, we stayed in dalyan for two weeks early may, i had two trips up into the Kizilcadag Mountains and a morning back at Dalaman Airport marsh as well as every morning for a couple of hours around the resort, i also biked several Kilometers to tepeseri woods, highlights included a couple of Rock thrush's, Finch's Wheatear, Blue Cheeked Bee-Eater, White Tailed Eagle, Orphean warbler, Pallid harrier, Lanner, Ruddy Shelduck, Cinereous Bunting and several large birds of prey everyday including Short toed eagle and Long Legged Buzzard.

WHITE THROATED ROBIN, Kizilcadag Mountains, this superb bird flew up and perched on a bush a very close range, i had to slowly move back to get in in my scope, it sat for over twenty minutes and even burst into song several times.

Race, Penicillata, Note the greyer overall colour, with a white throat and the black running all the way round from the lores, ear coverts into the breast band, quite tame but found at mid day as i walked back to the car, the sun was blinding from all angles and i rushed the shot as the local cafe owners dog came running up to me it flushed the Lark.

Boultham Mere Bird Race

Every first sunday for the last ten years we have done a bird race at Boultham Mere the record stands at 83 species, despite only recording 74 species this year we had a good list of scare birds for the reserve including Wheatear, Arctic Tern a Turnstone only the second record and this spanking Sandwich Tern that flew in at 10.30am. it landed on the raft and sat for the next half hour before flying off North.
