SHORT EARED OWL

Worlaby last sunday, just like this picture so have cropped it up a bit more.

WAXWING

WAXWING

6 waxy red tips, possibly a female but could also be a male.

WAXWING

No white inner webs and 2-3 red waxy tips.

WAXWING

No white on inner webs and at best 2-3 red waxy tips so a Juvenile, possibly a 1st year Female.
Generally Males show 6-8 waxy tips with extensive yellow tips tail feathers
Females 5-7 with less extensive yellow tips tail feathers
1Y-2Y spring male 4-8 with extensive yellow tips tail feathers
1Y-2Y female 0-5 with restricted yellow tips tail feathers
There is some overlap in these features, so not all birds can be safely sexed in the field.

WAXWING

On this bird i cant see a white tip on the longest primary and the tips to the rest of the inner webs look quite narrow, also the throat patch looks quite broken, so this is probably an adult female.

WAXWING

Ten birds found on tuesday sat in tree, wednesday upto 12 in area then thursday the sun shone and six birds gave stunning views feeding in a private garden.
